Not much to tell, really. I was born in 1941 in Flint, Michigan, and still live there. I served in the Air Force from 1960 to 1964, and am a Vietnam vet. My wife, Judy, & I were married in 1965. We have a son, Brian, and a daughter, Jennifer. I retired on Feb.1, 2005 after 40 years as an electrician in a General Motors plant here in Flint.
Judy & I share a lot of the same interests; auto racing (NASCARĀ® and local), flower gardening, music, reading, travel, and photography. I also do some woodworking; mostly things for the house and the darkroom. I also like working on cars, but my body objects to that more & more. Judy likes to keep things simple. She shoots with an Olympus Stylus Epic and gets some excellent shots. I shoot with 35mm, medium format, and 4x5. Click the equipment link above if you're interested in what I use.
I don't "do" digital. All the shots on this site were scanned from prints. I'd much rather spend time in the darkroom than in front of a monitor. For me, it's a magical place where wonderful things can happen. I do all my own film processing and printing, color and B&W. The only work I send out is an occasional wedding. Making a few hundred proof prints would be too time consuming.
I don't do this for a living, I do it because I love it. I don't want to let it become a "job". I shoot weddings, model's portfolios, portraits, flowers, landscapes, birds, bugs, animals - you name it. I suppose I could specialize, but I'm having too much fun doing a bit of everything. Besides, something I learn making one kind of photograph will help when I make another type.
I do have a couple projects in mind. We're going to visit the Chickamauga, Georgia and Lookout Mountain, Tennessee Civil War battlefields this summer. I want to try to capture, if I can, what those brave men on both sides faced during those dark days. The other is closer to home: photograph the inhabitants of our back yard garden; birds, blossoms and bugs. Also, we have a friend I've photographed for the last 25 years. I've photographed her, her family, her wedding, and her children, hundreds of shots in all. Maybe I'll look into putting together a "retrospective" of her.
